Sony CD-RW & DVD+/-RW can't read Sony Mavica cd-r's
Weird problem that creeped up this weekend.
Have a Sony CD-RW CRX175A & A DVD +/-RW DRU 510A running on a win xp pro system. Also have a Sony Mavica MVC-CD500 digital camera. Up through Friday night I was able to pop a disc from the mavica into either drive and the drive would open it up, let me manipulate the files, drag them to copy onto the desktop, etc.
I updated the BIOS for my system, and uninstalled some program (and recognize this might be where my problem lies), like gordian knot, isobuster, and now the drives read all discs except for the mini cd-r's. They read a cd-r that I burned which contains files from the digi camera.
I know I'm missing a driver or a background program but Sony's website's useless. Tried uninstlling both drives and letting windows install them...no luck.
The camera didn't come with much software just something called ImageMixer IMX.
Any ideas?

Geezer
Welcome to wd forums indytvguy .. so as I'm confus-ed I'm having a tough time with your question.. so just to sort out any 'confus-ed-ness', your problem doesn't lie with either of your internal drives ? But what you are complaining about is an inability to read discs produced by your sony camera ?
{in your main machine, & I pressume they work correctly in the camera itself ?} (for anyone sat wondering how the hell a camcorder/camera does this on its own, sony now produce a range of cameras which can burn direct to dvd, or in this case CD via a drive in the unit itself - Look at this ).
From what you've said, It sounds like windows needs an extra file or two to read the format of these disks, & these either aren't installed, or aren't tied up properly anymore due to you adding & removing etc..
Just what happens then when you insert one of these 'mini cd-rs' ? (exactly please & including any error messages, or events which might be found places like 'event viewer') - I'm having real trouble with these two seemingly conflicting sentences ! :- ..and now the drives read all discs except for the mini cd-r's. They read a cd-r that I burned which contains files from the digi camera ..
(I guess you mean, you can't read cd's produced by the camera in the computer, but you can read copies of those, burnt by another writer ?)
..I know I'm missing a driver or a background program but Sony's website's useless. Tried uninstlling both drives and letting windows install them...no luck. ..
I think you are right .. look at this forums sticky, & find the link referenced 'filter driver load order' tool; run that & post up the results please (both drives, though they may be identical results) & also please mention any burning type programs, or virtual drive type products you might have & that'll hopefully help me/us figure out whats not right...
