    Apple ITunes v5

Has anybody tried installing Apple ITunes v5 and if so, have you had any problems? I downloaded the ITunes Setup program both directly by going to Apple's website and by linking there from within ITunes v4. I have been getting both, alternately, Invalid Digital Signature crap and 'Some installation files are corrupt, please download a fresh copy and retry the installation' messages. I have gone through this process several times with the same result. I checked the digital signature and its good for some date in 2006. It seems hard to believe that Apple would have a major release like this, as a good chunk of their cash is currently coming from Windows users downloading ITunes tunes. I suspect this has more to do with the same type of M$ behavior that keeps preventing me from installing the latest drivers because they don't aren't 'signed' drivers. Here's another recent M$ bit of fun: I download and install the latest OpenOffice beta that contains no email client and suddenly Outlook refuses to connect to Hotmail. Maybe I'm just being paranoid...or am I?
Please post any suggestions for whatever 'security' feature I should try disabling.

Try downloading quicktime.. it comes bundled with iTunes and installed very sweetly on a fresh XP box.

I assume to tried uninstalling the previous version?

I've tried uninstalling 4 and Quicktime and installing 5 and new Quicktime as well layering the new installs over the old. I haven't tried playing with either program individually though. This is on a laptop running XP Home service pack 2 with all the updates, Zone Alarm 2005, and multiple spyware apps, but the error messages seem to be Windows messages. My life won't end if I don't have the new version but its one of those things that should go and doesn't so I have the urge to try fixing it. Thanks for responding, I played around with this off and on for a day and thought I would check with others to see if I was wasting my time or not.

    Hi Duke,
I've had the same trouble with v5 it seems, since installing it, it stopped msn messenger connecting, and after I reinstated back to the checkpoint prior to installation, it won't work - says some files are missing. Even if I try to reinstall the exe of the v4 i had, it doesn't work! Any success your end?
    Pete.

No, I've pretty much given up as I don't have any programs to peer into executables and probably wouldn't know what to look for anyway. I've tried playing with the various security programs I use as well as Windows permissions and services and nothing has worked. Since v 4 still works on my comp after reinstalling I've consigned myself to checking at Apple's website once in a while for any fixes and keeping my eyes open for a swell of Windows users who have experienced similar problems. Oh well.

Thanks for the link. That certainly clears up that mystery.
