How far does your mouse travel ?

I must have been watching too many of those e-sure adverts {the ones with the mouse in a mouse, he explains confus-ed-ly} on the telly, that or eating too much cheese .. but I just wondered - How far does a mouse travel every day ?

& don't tell me .. about 6 inches up, right, left or down depending, I know that bit .. so come on folks with nothing particularly better to do , how am I gonna work it out ?

    how about this

stick a pencil or pen to the side of the mouse. Put the mouse on a large sheet of paper. For one minute do some representative mouse movements. Measure the line lengths, add them up and then extrapolate...

PS, I hope you get some work in soon... you are going nuts

The unit of mouse movement is actually the "mickey ".

(For any given mouse, a mickey is the amount that mouse has to move for it to report that it has moved. Then the number of mickeys of movement is reported as relative data ie distance travelled.)

I have a trackball that travelled 600 miles one day.
