Question Pioneer 109 Burner not recognising Ritek DVD-R 8x media

    Hello all

I've got a Pioneer 109 DVD Burner. I've also got Nero Burning Rom v6.6.0.16.

I recently bought a spindal of (50 discs) Ritek 8x DVD-R discs. When I insert it into Nero, Nero's Disc Info doesn't recognise it as a blank media, it just says it cannot recongise it or it's bad media. These are all new discs. For some odd reason, when I put in another no name brand dvd-r, Nero's Disc Info recongises the disc.

What can be causing Nero/My Burner not to read the new Ritek discs? I've hardly used any of these discs. Is there anyway I can check if the discs are bad? Surely Ritek discs are one of the most reputable brands right?

    Hi Dan168, Welcome to Windrivers!

I think you need to return the discs for a refund as it would appear that they are in some way defective. DVD rewriters can be very picky about what discs they will take but a combination of Pioneer and Ritek should be hassle free.

There are also a lot of counterfeit blank discs about... Usually available at computer fairs, e-bay etc.

Bummer! I did buy these at a computer fair!

I think I might buy them from a shop in future instead and get a receipt as proof of purchase in case they are defective.

    Thanks Atodini.

Been caught out once or twice with hookey discs myself as well, (and we retail CD's / DVD's etc!!). Nowadays we're very careful where we buy in from....

Even got hit at a computer fair a few years ago - several hundred pounds worth of components, every one of which turned out to be faulty! Still I had a proper receipt, VAT number, address 'phone number & so on. Having got no luck with the 'phone number, I took a run out to see the people - I now know where St Albans fire station is (the address that was on the obviously false receipt)!

    Caveat Emptor!!!!

Incidentally, I've got a DVR109 in this box and I've found that Datawrite Titaniums work really well with it.
