Samsung - SH-W162C dvd buring errors.
Hello just registered to see if anyone could help me out.
I've read some posts with same problems, tried every fix suggested, still no luck.
I bought a Samsung: SH-W162C DVD burner,
few of my problems:
1: when updateing firmware, i get error "Flash cmd fail!!" the drive came with 09 on it (tried to get to 10). so i'm not sure if i really need to worry about that now
2: when burning (nero express 6.6.0.15 that came with drive) i get "Buffer too large" (i have a log file if anyone wants too see that)
I can burn CD-R's fine. those errors above are for DVD-R's.
my system:
OS: windows xp SP2
mobo: Chaintech 7NJS Ultra Zenith (with updated nvidia chip drivers)
4 hard drives: 2 with IDE cables (80 gig, 100 gig) and 2 with serial ata (80 gig, 120 gig)
1 dvd burner/ master /ide. (the drive im asking about)
Ive tried to set the drives to DMA mode, with no luck. in my bios everything that says DMA is enabled, and the PIO are on auto. no disable, only Mode 1-4
also i cant change the modes within windows (no advanced tab, like noted in other posts ive read)
[part of nero log]
=== Scsi-Device-Map ===
DiskPeripheral : Promise 1+0 Stripe/RAID01.10 fasttx2k Port 0 ID 0 DMA: Off
DiskPeripheral : Promise 1+0 Stripe/RAID01.10 fasttx2k Port 0 ID 1 DMA: Off
DiskPeripheral : ST380013A 3.06 nvidesm Port 1 ID 0 DMA: Off
DiskPeripheral : WDC WD1000BB-00CAA1 17.0 nvidesm Port 1 ID 1 DMA: Off
CdRomPeripheral : TSSTcorpCD/DVDW SH-W162CTS09 nvidesm Port 2 ID 0 DMA: Off
----------------------------
so the DMA is off for sure. not sure what to do now. all my hard drives are full as hell. want to clean some of it up, and i want to avoid using 500 or whatever CD-R's.

well hot damn, that worked. only took me 4 hours to get it working. but it worked. problem i was having was when i changed it to the primary ide control it was saying there was to many devices, and i could see 2 of my drives (s-ata ones), BUT i could burn dvds at that time. but didnt help be only seeing 2 of my drives, and 2 missing, my computer hasnt restarted that much in ages.
so eventualy after the restarts and autofinding the IDE controllers and installing them, it fixed itself. Now all my drives have the DMA and PIO option, and everything works perfect, Burning a DVD as i type. woohoo.
Thank you very much for your help. I would have never thought that the nforce drivers would have messed it up, i figured updating them would help.
Thanks again.

Welcome to Windrivers Tamie-tam
First thing we need to know is what is the make and model of the computer and then we can get started.

ok, you managed to have a board that is on the unusual side, meaning it's tough to find updates for. The one site that has what you need is currently down. Do you have the driver disk that came with the motherboard at all?

Bingo!
Brilliant. Let's hope the cd works... put in the drive and see if you can find a file called setup.exe. If you can, double click it to run it. Follow the wizard to install it and then reboot if it doesn't ask you to.
On the scsi stuff, you have a program called cloneDVD? Please for the moment, uninstall it from add/remove programs - that should remove the virtual dvd drive and the scsi drivers. Reboot and drive your DVD again (not the firmware upgrade, just the drive functions). If it does work, then have a go with the firmware update.
Never, ever approach a computer saying or even thinking "I will just do this quickly."

not too dumb, you just have a bit of a tangle and sorting it out is going to take some patience.
You need to go into safe mode and remove the two disk drives from device manager. Then reboot.
Do you know how many disk drives you actually have?
