Problem Booting
Hello everyone. Well my friend gave me a computer that had win2k on it but it was cleaned. When I turn on the computer nothing shows up on the screen. It has an onboard video card. Could it be that the video card doesnt work? What I want to do is view the specs of this computer. I am planning to install xp on it. Its a dell and was made for xp. Thx for any help

Most Dell branded comps have a model name and number on them, eg, Dimension 8200, Dimension 4100.
It is possible your friend had disabled the onboard video using bios or jumpers - pulling the bios battery for 10 minutes will reset the bios - jumpers may or may not exist and you need to find the model so you can (maybe) download what Dell laughingly calls a 'manual'.
Also, the Dell forums are of some help IF you can id the model.

Well, being as how you said he was your friend I thot he wouldn't give you a broken comp without telling you and thus he may have removed a video card he had installed but forgot to change the bios first.
Alternately, when he was 'cleaning' the software and otherwise doing stuff to the comp he may have 'sparked' the bios (static) which could cause some problems.
Talk to your friend.
