    cdrom drive problems

    Hello all,
My daughter has an emachine that has an all in one cd-dvdrw drive.
I dont have the specific mod no. but this is what it does. it will play cds and dvds, however it will not write to cds or dvds nor will it start to install data cds, homemade or not. the system wont recognize anything in the disk.
for that matter when the disk is in and i go to my computer it dosnt recognize the disk at all.
    anyone got any answers?
    thanks

Assuming XP: Get your install disk handy and go to Start, Run, and type 'sfc /scannow' (no quotes) and let it check drivers in Windows.

If that doesn't get things right, go to Start, Control Panel, System , Hardware, Device Manager and click the arrow beside 'dvd/cd-rom drives' and RIGHT click the drive and click uninstall and say OK then shut down immediately and see if Windows will re-find and install the drivers correctly on re-boot.

If that stuff fails please post again.

    editted - sfc /scannow
