DVSKorea DSR 1600H DVD ROM
I just installed the Syba Ultra ATA 133I IDE Controller card on my Windows XP computer.I plugged my DVD ROM(DVSKOREA DSR 1600H)to it.I rebooted and the blackscreen sez:F3 for Configuration Utility.then it's:F1 to assisn HDD(first)SET or F2 to REMOVE HDD SET.I press F1.it sez:assign number(it only allows me to press 1)then asks Y/N.I press Y and it starts all over again in a continuous loop until I press ESC.what am I doing wrong?

I would think you have to install the card, boot up, install the necessary controller drivers, then shut down and add devices.
As usual, more info on what you did would help.
thx

the drivers are installed_no yellow marks in device manager.when computer starts up the first screen is for the asus P5GZ-MX motherboard then blackscreen_PRESS F3 for Configuration Utility_next line DRIVE:3 DVSKOREA DVD ROM_I press F3_then PRESS F1 to assign HDD(first)SET or F2 to remove_I press F1_assign number(it only allows me to press 1)_then Y/N_I press Y_then it endlessly repeats this till I press ESC.
I probably have to reprogram BIOS but damned if I know how.

'HDD(first)SET' sounds like it wants to install a Raid array and you aren't doing that.
I can't access the Syba US site - you need to find out from them(or your manual) how to use that as a '2-channel IDE interface supporting 4 IDE devices, co-exist with on-board IDE interface'.
edit: have a look around this site

The 'i' version apparently doesn't have raid support despite the box (read here: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16816124001 ).
The key may be to install it, boot up, load the RIGHT driver ( see the review on that link) and then shut-down and install the cd/dvd.
Syba also has contact links on their pages - use them.

thanks.the CD-ROM didn't let me specify which drivers it just auto downloaded them.the syba website sez you have to load the RAID drivers anyway and then flash the controller's BIOS to Non-RAID but won't explain how.

Actually, if you read that link I gave you earlier, it said "Where can you find more information?
Please visit www.siliconimage.com for more firmware update and detailed technical issue."
Quick look I found:
http://www.siliconimage.com/products/product.aspx?id=31
You can follow this up.

thanks again.I've already been to siliconimage.I keep uninstalling the drivers then installing new ones but the same problem persists and nobody at syba seems to know how to correct it.

One of the reviewers/posters at the NewEgg site said "Although it comes with a driver CD, it's still a bit confusing to locate the correct driver. Make sure you find the SIL680 folder, then the Win_drv subfolder."
If that card doesn't support Raid, then Raid drivers aren't the ones you want to use with it I wouldn't think.
With the cd/dvd disconnected, boot up and select that device and change the driver to the one he indicated.
If that doesn't work, post again and maybe someone wiser will have a better solution.

edit: that person also said "Also, your motherboard must support UltraATA/133 mode. Most motherboards do, but that's probably why other people were having problems with it. Another thing - make sure you check Device Manager before thinking your drive and/or card isn't working. It might just not be active, hence not showing a drive letter. Check Control Panel-->Administrative Tools-->Computer Management."

I went into BIOS SETUP UTILITY>BOOT>BOOT DEVICE PRIORITY and there at number 4 is DVSKOREA DVD-ROM DSR1600H.BIOS identified the device but my computer won't.do I have to assign IRQ to it(and how).I keep contacting Syba but all they say is uninstall/reinstall drivers and move IDE Controller card to different PCI slot.I've done both half-dozen times to no effect.

In bios 'plug and play o/s?' (advanced settings) should be 'YES' and XP should be set to use plug and play by default (can be checked in Admin Tools, Services).
I would try making that PCI card a non-boot device (click on that item that shows as boot device #4 - does it let you de-select?).

weird thing#2:when I go to PCI PnP there is no setting for Plug and Play O/S.the manual for my ASUS P5GZ-MX motherboard recommended that as well.I went to BIOS SETUP UTILITY>ADVANCED>PCI PnP but there is no Plug and Play O/S.

Well, you got me!
If you can return that card, I'd suggest doing so and getting another model. Look for one that JUST uses IDE - pick through the examples below:

To set the boot device on the Syba ATA133I, reboot the system in which the card has been installed. During the boot cycle, the card will post and show the following message:
Sil 0680 ATA/133 Controller Bios Version 3.2.10
Copyright © 1997-2003 Silicon Image, Inc.
Press F3 to enter Configuration Utility
Press F3 to enter the BIOS. The card will then display the devices attached to the card and will show the following lines:
Press F1 to assign first (HDD) set
Press F2 to remove first (HDD) set
Press ESC to exit
Press F1. The screen will then show:
Enter the Set number selected
Press ESC to exit
Your Selection?
Enter the set number of the drive that you want to become the boot drive.
Press ESC to exit the utility.
Your selected drive will now become your boot drive.
In addition to these settings you will also need to adjust the motherboard’s BIOS to boot from the Syba SD-ATA133I IDE controller. Please refer to the motherboard’s documentation on how to choose a boot device in the BIOS.
Note:>/b> The process of assigning a boot device would not need to be utilized for attaching non-bootable devices such as DVDs or CD-Burners.
this describes my problem but offers no solution.since the device attached is a DVD-ROM how do I keep it from booting?
