    Exclamation help please. constant problems.

hi i was wondering if anybody could help me. i had been having problems with installing a webcam on my new computer with vista to begin with. i bought a logitech camera, but it froze an awful lot, so i installed it and took it back. i thought bought another camera, but it wouldn't install at all. i bought another after this and it wouldn't install either. i then found out that the problem was down to logitech and if you had previously installed a webcam by them then you were to have problems due to drivers and such.
    i found a webpage (http://forums.creative.com/creativel...cending&page=2)
which was giving step to step instructions of how to get rid of the old drivers from logitech to enable a different camera to work.
i deleted the driver folder (i think) that i was told to - 6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F - but it didn't help any.

i gave up, but today when i tried to scan a magazine.. my scanning had vanished from my twain devices and i am now wondering if it has something to do with deleting those drivers from before. i now have no scanner along with no webcam and it is driving me mental.

somebody please help. i am pretty clueless with computers as you can tell.

Further to this issue: The thread you linked to said to delete the Upper and lower filters entries under that Registry key, NOT that key.

That was your mistake from not reading what they said or at least not understanding and not asking someone BEFORE' you acted.

It sometimes helps to write down what YOU think someone means and then post that as a question, ie, 'Is this correct? ....... etc'.

yeah, i realize now that i've made a mistake. i'm not very good with computers at all.

thanks for replying by the way.

in the link you sent me to.. it shows an example of what the contents of the folder should look like (i think) -

..but mine looks like this -

i am guessing this is because i had messed up and deleted everything previously. do you know how i am able to get them back, or is that what the link you directed me to is trying to explain?

6BDD1FC6-810F-11D0-BEC7-08002BE2092F class key folder is there in your computer listing - cursor over it and follow the directions.

(appears to be anyway can't see the complete key value)

edit: have you tried a system restore - that would recover a previous registry intact that had the key properly (providing you go back to a date before your playing around incident)

okay thanks, i will try giving it a go. hopefully i don't mess it up anymore, haha.

yep - tried system restore. it came up with a message after the restart saying there was a problem and it wasn't able to complete system restore or something alone those lines.

i've done everything it told me to and still no luck.

i found a screen cap i took from last night before i deleted anything and it looks different from what that site was telling me to do.

do you think you'd be able to help me if i posted it? maybe i should try creating one the same as it was in this screen cap -

    You got me there.

You could try a repair install - that should fix the basic OS up as good as new BUT you will lose any programs NOT in the basic Windows setup.

You could also get someone with the same OS version to 'export' a copy of that key and then send it to you. You copy it to a file and double click it and it will self-install I believe.

edit: you know that just repaired the key and you have to re-install the scanner software now for the rest of that key folder to get the info?

ahh goodness knows what i've done to it.

hey, do you know how to reboot a computer (i think that's the term).. not as in restart.. but like, reset it to how it is when you buy it. i'd love to do that if it would fix it. please let me know, and thanks for actually replying to me.

i'm not sure how to un-install the scanner as it automatically worked when i plugged it in to begin with because i have vista. should i just take the plug out and put it back in? so sorry by the way. as you can tell i am totally clueless when it comes to computers. i always get myself into these stupid situations and everything ends up not working.

In XP the actual installed hardware would have shown below that first set of key enties (what you show in yourpost #8).

Since that was erased (?) you can try a disconnect, shutdown and reconnect.

It might be worthwhile uninstalling the device/software (that is done in a similar manner in Vista but uses different terms).

I don't get any experience with Vista as the MIL's has worked OK since I took McAfee off it.

Perhaps one of the others here will help?

    Sorry.

    Super!

Now you can start a NEW thread about your camera - make sure you describe make, model, etc.

Also, if you wish, you can rummage around the site and learn how to mark this post as 'Resolved' - haha.
