    Windows ME Admin Rights

    I have a system I'm restoring for a friend.
He wants to use it for his daughter to use for email, web surfing and PC games.

I just re-installed Windows ME on it. When I try to install a game, from the original production disks, it tells me I don't have the proper admin rights.

I set the OS up on a minimal install to save hard drive space and accomodate minimal RAM.

How do I set up Administration Rights for the default, and only, user on the system?

    Welcome to Windrivers Argiod

ME didn't have admin rights as such, just policies... I think you may have over done the minimal install so that the games can't install.

How big is the hard disk? Which game is it?

The hard drive is 20GB unformatted, about 19.5 formated.
The first game I attempted to install was Command and Conquor.

An ME install is less than 1GB, so you should start again and do a standard install.

Which command and conquer? there are quite a few

Do I have to do a total re-install, or can Windows ME install the missing components from Control Center, Add and Remove function?

I'm starting with Red Alert, and if successful will add expansions from there...

Good question. I would do a reinstall (over the top) because it would take just as long to install each component, but if you do a repair install, it will put everything back and you won't lose the customisation you have done so far.

Thanks, will do. I'll let you know tomorrow how it comes out.
BTW, I LOVE your sig... never found anything that could be done 'quickly' on any system, under any OS... and I've been playing with these Devil's Boxes since the mid eighties. I cut my teeth on an Apple II+ with two Raina Elite III floppy drives (dual sided, dual density 5-1/4") and the so called 'language board' which brought the RAM up to a whopping 64K!!! I also had a 10MB hard drive attached, at no small expense. Now I have programs that take up several GB of space... and thought it was nearly infinite space... LOL
Also had an Epson dot matrix attached, but can't remember which one... but it had 'FX' on the end of the name...

Yep I started tinkering with a zx80, acorns, bbc b, amiga, then moved on to the first IBMs... sigh, those were the days. The sig is the result of nearly 30 years experience

My second system was one of the original IBM PCs. So old it had one of the shortest computer patent numbers I've ever seen.

I upgraded it over a year's time from a 4.something speed system, to the equivalent of an Windows XT with a 40MHz cpu and lots of other goodies... and at the time, I thought it was the 'ultimate' machine... Now, of course, I realize that the 'Ultimate' machine is probably the one I'll buy the day before I die... :P
