PCMCIA USB HUB 2.0 works but slow...
Hi there,
I have Compaq Presario B1800, windows XP (sp3).
Have a NEC chip Ritmo brand PCMCIA to USB 4 ports, all drivers installed on inserting card, in device manager it shows Standard enhanced PCI to USB Host controller along with several USB root hub listings. I insert a mouse and it installs itself and says is working properly however the mouse movement is very jumpy and slow to respond. Also when i try to intert usb hard drive it again installs but no extra drive shows up in c: drive but the lights come on the usb storage device.
I have updated bios, uninstalled and re-installed drivers, automatically selected the NEC drivers, have all windows updates and nothing has worked.
Any suggestions or troubleshooting would be great.

That model came with 3 USB 2.0 ports - do they work OK ?
Have you tried the 'uninstall all hubs' repair (or all 3 detailed here);

Also you may need to go to the Manage feature and assign a drive letter to the external harddrive

Is the external USB hard drive self powered? As in does it have it's own power supply or is it trying to use the power from the pcmcia adapter? Could be an issue with getting the proper voltages from the PCMCIA adapter to the USB ports in order to power up the external drive.
