[RESOLVED] Invalid command.com

I am getting an invalid command.com when booting from all types of media and with all dos and windows boot disks. Can anyone help?

Are you certain that the system BIOS is set to boot from A: first? If the system is set to boot from C: first, and the hard drive has no system files on it, or the system files are corrupt, then you will get the same message even if you have a bootable floppy in the A: drive. Set the system boot options to A: then C:, or something like that, and try again with the bootable floppy.

Actually if it's booting an empty hard drive first you will get "no operating system found" Try making a new disk from another computer. HOWEVER, do not use the utility in Add/Remove Programs. Instead go to windows explorer and right click the A drive, click format and check copy system files. try this disk and see what happens.

maybe bad boot media (make another boot floppy), maybe back RAM (replace), or maybe a burnt processor. I had one doing that once and it turned out that the CPU fan was not working (why didn't i check that first?) and the CPU burnt. Go figure....

You probably have a virus on your boot sector of your hard disk. Try using an anti-virus program. Or at the command prompt type "fdisk /mbr" it will rewrite your boot sector.

Agree with epiccs.
1.I'm use Ontrack Disk Manager 7.x running from diskette in advanced maintenance mode to fix this problem first.
2.Then, if all working O'k, You can install WIN95/98 and it should kill made by DM changes in boot sector.
3.If not - use Norton Disk Doctor (often called as Norton Disk Destroeyer,if You want) from NU8 (on FAT16 partitions) running with option:
ndd c:/rebuild.
I have save lots of HDD from trash doing so.
Of course, all information on this HDD will be lost.
4.Another possible source for this problem - bad MoBo' cashe. Try to disable MoBo cashe and reboot.
