msnp32.dll, windows can't find it on startup
I installed windows 98se and first time it started up it could not find a file it was looking for. It popped up the cannot find "*.*" dialog box (I don't remember what file it couldn't find), but it did not have the browse button and I did not know the full path name for where the file was. It would startup and say that it could not find vnsetup.vxd, vredir.vxd, dfs.vxd, in a dos like screen. then after hitting enter 3 times windows would load up and say that it could not find dynamic link library: msnp32.dll . I pasted the 3 vxd files and the dll in C:\windows\system and that caused the three vxd file errors to go away. Now I am left with the dll error. I tried pasting the dll in every folder that it might need to be in. I tried searching the win.ini file for any path it might be looking for, but found nothing. I also searched the registry, which makes lots of references to the file, but I could not find any paths it was looking in. Can anyone help me? any ideas at all?
