Hi,
I am curious as to what people are using in thier networking environment, servers in particular but can include workstations as well. Nothing in theory but real world. (So don't give a pitch on Linux if you aren't using it).
So what are you using, any things you like about it? dislike? improvements? etc.

I will give you a brief:
WE have 3 servers (DELLS).
1 PDC running NT 4.0, this server is also a file server and print server.
1 BDC running NT 4.0 and Exchange 5.5. This is our mail server (obviously) Internet server.
1 Member server running NT 4.0 which is used for a very resource intensive Visual Foxpro accounting program. I must say I can not stand this third party program. Their Knowledge base stinks and it is hard to network with people about problems with it when nobody you know uses it. So I usually end on the phone rather than researching (I hate being on the phone). And on more than one occasion have the tech support people pointed a finger at MS.

I also have a couple of Windows 95 machines acting as stand alone servers and all they really do is hold archived documents which is used for research. It comes in handy and if the machine crashes these documents are never changed so they can be restored from a CD.

As far as workstations we use ALOT of Windows 95 workstations but we are finally leaving 1995 and bringing in XP. I myself have Windows 2000 Pro.
Software we use Office 97 but are upgrading little by little. We have a couple of people using Act 2000.

All in all I think NT 4.0 is stable for our purposes and Windows 95 is well Windows 95.

Have a good day,
D
