[RESOLVED] PCI Serial Bus Controller
System: 500mhzP3, 128ram, 6g hd, Win98.
The project was to replace a working 6g hd with a 20g. The 6g drive was removed prior to beginning the installation. Win98SE formatted the drive properly, but when rebooting it comes up with a new hardware wizard and it's looking for drivers for some PCI controller it thinks it found. Under Device Mgr, an exclamation point shows up in the "Other devices" category. After pulling out what's left of my hair and searching every conceivable place for this mysterious driver, I gave up and reinstalled the original 6g drive. It came up normally and there's no mention of or even a listing for "Other Devices" in Device Manager and the system is operating like it was.
Additionally, I had to tell Win98SE that there was a modem installed (PCI) as well as the display card (AGP). The Win98 that's on the 6g drive knows these items without me telling it about them.
Again, the only thing that changed was the hard drive and loading Win98Se versus straight Win98.
Any ideas while I still have some hair left to pull?
Thanks.
George
