Ok, the other day a guy asks me if I have any older mobos sitting around that I will sell to him cheap (he wants a Christmas gift for a sister who just wants to surf the web). I say I have a K6/2 350. Ok. Cool. I say I got the whole system ready for a $250. He says no, $150 and he will supply hdd and memory. Ok. The guy is a friend. So he goes to the computer show and picks up an 8.4 gb WD hdd and a 64 meg DIMM. I install Win95 (that is what he wanted). I start getting a whole bunch of lockups. Duh. AMD and Win95 have a communication problem and there is a patch. I talk him into Win98. Ok. I keep having problems installing. I go into BIOS and the memory is reading 70ns. Hmm. I put in one of my listed PC100 DIMMs. Reads 10ns. Ok. He got sold PC66 memory (or worse). I put one of my chips in just to do the install. Keep getting crashes. WTF! I put in one of my hdd. Installs fine and runs well. I asked him about hdd. He says, are you sure it is not your board. I have been running pc for months (wife's old pc) and never had problems, but he is a friend, so I try a different pc (same board but K6/2 400 running my NT server which runs 24/7). Same problems. I bring hdd and memory back to him today and say it doesn't work. Now my question is, what did I screw up here. I spent 2 evenings on this stupid machine. Remember, it worked fine for the last 2 years.
