Film Reviews from Mr Cabbage
Well, what with having a few spare evenings lately, Ive been seeing a few more films.
The most recent of which being Harry Potter, and The Last Castle.
'The Last Castle', although very, very cliche`, was still quite an enjoyable romp. The choice of Robert Redford for the role of the vigilante prisoner does take a bit of faith to believe, but the fat guy from 'The Sopranos' makes a great bad guy. The rest of the cast, are a thrown together band of men, obviously carefully chosen to reflect every stereotype in the book. Again, I still enjoyed this movie, but this could have been attributed more to the choc-mint icecream I was eating at the time.
Now, Lets talk about Harry Potter. I would rather not, but Im going to anyway.
This film was an absolute abortion. A strong testiment, to exactly why childrens books should stay just that. Childrens, and Books.
Having a taste a little more refined than the books require, I couldnt bring myself to read any of them, so being very new to this Harry Potter 'universe' I attempted to sit through the film, with as open a mind as I have.
Perhaps I failed.
I fail to see where the special effects budget was spent. Seven minutes of poorly rendered CG surely cant be all they could muster? The CG sequences and live action didnt so much as blend together, as fight each other for pieces of the screen. This isnt the way things should be done. The constant poking from my girlfriend throughout the film, was the only thing keeping me from dozing off Im afraid.
Anyone elses thoughts?.. answers on the back of a postcard, to the usual address.
