Unless USR is into playing jokes on its customers by posting the incorrect drivers on their web site, yeah I would say it is the right driver.

There are no other modems listed in Device Manager. There never has been. The only modem ever listed is the one I'm trying to install. NO HCF, HSF, Win, nothing. And it does install in the Modems icon in Control Panel. And it does show up under Modems in Control Panel. There is nothing else there. But after Diagnostics/Info it gives the "Can't open port" message.

I will try some more of DSTech's suggestions. I will delete with impunity.

I will get back later today.
