I am working on a Compaq PC running windows 98, integrated video and sound card. I am getting a blue screen of death startup error that says I am having a problem with a VXd located at a certain memory location. There is the option to continue by pressing any key. When I do that, the Windows 98 screen comes up, but the unit totally freezes, and I have to Ctrl-alt-Del to restart. I was able to get the unit to boot in safe mode. I disabled all of the following files one by one (through msconfig) and restarted the pc to see if I could pinpoint the location of the bootup error: config.sys, autoexec.bat, win.ini, sys.ini. The problem still persists.
I haven't scanned the disk drive for viruses yet, but I will as soon as I get the chance. Thanks in advance for any help.
