Some boards require jumper settings to use the 6 channel correctly... have you checked the motherboard manual?
Finally what drivers are you using - the windows supplied or the drivers that came with the motherboard?
1. Windows 2000 SP3
2. Yes, the onboard sound has an applet which allows you to tell it whether to use the line in and mic as extra outputs (centre/rear) or not. They are both currently enabled.
3. No jumper settings, no bios settings, just software with the drivers.
4. Motherboard supplied drivers. Avance Logic AC97 6 channel something or other.
