While the RIAA promotes their sleeze under the auspice of backing the recording artists who are "loosing" money I have to agree with one senator who's rebuttle to the entire issue was this:
"So...the RIAA should be given the lease to litigate each and every American individual downloading off the internet...and in the process, deprive little Johnnie from his college education so that Kid Rock can continue to make millions? I think not"

In addition...how many parents are mowing the grass while their 13 year old is downloading MP3's off the web? It's not the 13 who will be sued, but the PARENT who's name is logged with the ISP.

It's just another attack on the little guy by big business. It's their response to the natural order of things. The world is ever changing...and with technology....changing more. Who the hell listens to radio stations anymore as they once did in the twenties? TV came along....Who rides a horse to work when they can drive? In the natural progression with technology, there comes a time when your losses are a result of technology. Milking the people for those losses is wrong. If the PEOPLE do not engage and DEMAND the government to deal with the issue ON BEHALF of the voters...the RIAA will establish another means of revenue through litigation and compensation....and it's NOT for the benefit of their artists...they screw THEM too! Follow the money....
