adsl / network query

bit of quick help please ,

monday sees the arrival of ADSL ,as the dial up has got slower and slower, thru a UK supplier called TISCALI ,,,

have 2 machines in the house , No1 is in my office , i used to use it a lot.
No 2 is my laptop , sat next to my chair ,,i use it all the time
I have modems and phone lines next to both machines. i set up a simple network ,through a 10/100 4 way hub and 2 cables.(hub sat next to machine upstairs), dropped a cable down to my lappy as there is no cd-rom , this is a quick way to load proggys,

tiscalli will suply me with a simple adsl modem.
the machine upstairs stays on all day/night whereas "her indoors" closes the lid on my laptop and moves it (to hoover)

talkin cost here ,,,,,and lack of wires,

do you reckon to buy a router/modem ,,,,,or simply put the modem in upstairs , and run 1x network cable to my lappy ,,,,,

are there any probs with modems having to be "reset" ,,,and me gettin out of my chair?


sounds simple ,,can u see any probs ??

most of my answers have been answered here http://forums.windrivers.com/showthread.php?t=54682 but i will leave the question for thoughts/comments , on easiest/cheapest way
