    Question 1394 drive disappears from XP

    I have an Adaptec Firewire card in an XP Pro machine and use it to connect ot a Western Digital HD and to a Canon camcorder. The two are plugged into different ports of the Adaptec card. Problem is that sometimes - not always - when turning off or unplugging the camcorder, the hard drive disappears (and gets a yellow ! in Device Manager). Disconnect and reconnect either the HD power or HD Firewire brings it back, so an annoying workaround does exist. Everything is powered through good UPS. Any suggestions would be appreciated. I already disabled the XP Firewire "network", an Adaptec suggestion, which was making the HD disappear at random times. Now it only happens as mentioined above. Thanks!
