There is a program called Clonemaster. You can get for free on CNET. Use it manually, in other words, don't trust the machine to eliminate the duplicate files automatically. Eliminate all the duplicate files only if you are sure.
AS to old files, you can also download a free trial version of the Uninstaller by McAFee. This program will tell you which programs you haven't used in the last six months.
