Now the Aussies are wacky, too...

From July 1, the weapons will be classed as prohibited, which means anyone caught carrying one without lawful excuse risks six months in jail or a $12,270 fine.
Self-defence will not be considered a lawful excuse."

Gee, full firearms ban, now swords and crossbows. What's next? Pocket knives with a blade longer than 1 inch?
And not one mention of actually stopping crime.....
Sounds more tyrranical than the US at the moment.
