Dell Inspiron 1000
My wife suffers from Lupus and has to spend a lot of time in bed. I just bought her a Dell Inspiron 1000 with a Celeron 2.2ghz, 256 ram and 30 gb hard drive and a DVD/CD-RW. She has a Desktop pc with a P4 3ghz HT, 8oo fsb that is great for the heavier apps. The reason I went cheap on the laptop is she only uses it for e-mail and playing freecell and light internet surfing. But down the road things might change with her loss of mobility.
My question is, by the way I can't seem to understand the Dell tech support people, is the laptop has a fsb of 400. Can this be upgraded to say a P4 3ghz? Also the unit will only handle 512mb ram and I believe the 1st 256mb is under the keyboard and the other slot is on the bottom access port.
I know the ram would be a definite improvement, but would it be worth upgrading the processor, and again is a P4 possible? The manual it came with isn't very clear on these issues. Also I believe the ram is PC2700? Is that correct?
I know very little about laptops so excuse my ignorance.
Also would adding ram and a possible cpu void my warranty?
