I solved the problem I was having with no sound from my CD and Media Player 6 by using Everest program which gave me the name and model of my sound card and I downloaded a driver for it which is Trident 4D Wave DX. Many thanks to Platypus, ADS Tech and TechZ for their help!

But somehow with all the things I tried I have ended up with a new problem which is my system locks up in certain situations. I can operate my ususal programs: Word, Outlook Exp, Outlook and navigate the Net, etc. However, when I try Start > CP > Multimedia > Audio tab > Playback section [Trident PCI Playback] > Advanced Properties it locks up the system and I have to C-Alt+del out and reboot. However when I go ...Multimedia > Audio tab > Recording section [Trident PCI Record] > Advanced Properties ...no problem.
So something is wrong with the playback part of Multimedia but not the recording part is my guess. Does this give any of you any clues to give me some suggestions of things I could try to correct this???

An earlier suggestion is that my DirectX might not be a new enough version. It's Ver. 6.01 I don't know if that is compatible with Trident 4D Wave DX (and Media Player 6) or not. Does anybody know?
