SCrewy CDROM drives

This is my own system, not a customers, so it's inmportant(ha ha)
My system pre-upgrade had Abit BE6-2 Raid with 3 hard drives, CD RW, DVD and CD, and Zip.(I think at this point that is really all that's relevant.) I upgraded to Asus P4T and P4. Created an MP3 server with the BE6-2 and moved all but one of the Hard drives there. Now my system has 1 HD(master, primary ide) and a DVD and CDRW(primary and master,secondary ide) I was running Millenium. Then I upgraded to xp beta 2, rc1, and rc 2. Here is the problem. I am sure it has to do with all the changes in the drives. Any program that I install that looks to the cd for verification, or restarts and looks for the cd again, can't find it. It says the disk is not inserted or similar message. Previously cd drives were g,h, and i, now d and e. Autorun also does not work. Any ideas. I don't want to format, but if I have to I will. Other than this system works flawlessly.

Not really an answer, just more of a suggestion, I wouldn't go through that many upgrades....I like to format and reload a system anytime I am switching OS's.....Upgrading Windows OS's is flakey at best!!!!!

There are programs out there that do that for you, you specify which drive letter to look for, than tell it the new drive letter you want to use.

I've never tried one myself and I can't name one for you, but they're out there.

I know I should have formatted a long time ago. I did last night. Did RC2 from scratch. Everything went great. Finished importing mail into Outlook, setting up personal stuff this morning. It detected every device in my system automatically. Thanks for the input. I knew the RIGHT thing to do, I was just lazy and wanted to avoid it.

gointo sys properties and hard set the drive letters, and that should solve ur problems...

I use one called COA32 for this kind of stuff. It can be downloaded <a href="http://singapore.cnet.com/download/pc/swinfo/0,2000028720,20080739s,00.htm" target="_blank">here</a>.
