Linux Back to win98
Hello I was wondering if someone could tell me how to delete a partition that was used with linux, I have never used linux and I have a customers computer that was using linux (as a firewall) and has been replaced by a router and now wants it reloaded with 98 to use, but I cant seem to get the 98 boot disk to delete the partition. Any help is greatly appreciated.

If you want to use the linux partition now for another OS, you wprobably have to use fdisk at the linux-prompt before you can do it...
But if you have nothing to worry about... why not "fdisk /mbr" and then again fdisk and format the disk from DOS... I would try that...

You might be better running FDISK and deleting all partitions, including non-dos,and then remake new partitions and reinstall the OS.

I tried that as well, wont let me remove even non dos partitions, anyway I found a solution, after searching google, I downloaded a program called gdisk (symantec product) and it removed all the partions. Thanks for all the help.

to delete a linux partition, you need a installation disk for linux. start the instalation. at the point where you can choise between with partition or whole disk, chose partition. here you see witch partitions are on your hard disk. probely you see a linux swap partition and a linux nativ partition. you can chose eraesing or change. Best is to change them to fat. stop instalation and reboot. now you can see the partitions in fdisk. if you have a bootmanager instald you can delete it with a bootdisk with fdisk (fdisk /mbr) mbr stands for "master boot record".
I wich you good luke
if there are stil some cestions left about linux send a email and i while try to explane them to you.

Use MaxBlast from Maxtor. It will delete nearly anything.
