    Question IBM Thinkpad locked

I have an IBM Thinkpad that my customer bought at a garage sale (what can i say), but the bios apparently has a password. Of course, the "new" owner does not have a clue. As soon as you boot, a little lock shows up in the left corner. I have tried removing the 2 batteries under the front pad, disconnecting all power etc., to no avail. Any suggestions?

I had the same problem with a 760ed - throw it away. There is no way to remove the password that I could get from anyone. Ingram, IBM and three IBM authorized repair shops (a friend of a friend even worked at one) and all they would do is replace the system board.

Wouldn't KILLCMOS work to remove this password ??? I realise it wouldn't help with the HD password or the supervisor password , but it seems it should work here ?? Anyone tried it ?

Don't you have to boot from a floppy to use kill cmos? How can you do that when machine wont even post because of password? Correct me if I'm wrong.

Kenteth is 100% right - esp. when talking about thinkpads, notebooks. If the machine has the lock pw, you dont even get a complete POST. The link Tech Head gave tackles this problem though.
