This is usually an error in EMU10K1.VXD, and is caused by incorrect drivers being loaded. What's your OS? If it's WinME, the solution is to download the new "Live Ware 3.0"
from Soundblaster.com, then uninstall any SBLive devices in Device Manager using Control Panel , then reboot system. When WinME restarts & comes up with "New devices found" cancel them. Then install the new "Live Ware 3.0" sotware. Once done with that the installation will reboot
system. When ME starts again all will be fine.
If you're not running WinME, try the same approach. It should work pretty much the same
Lemme know how it works

I had this problem a bunch of times before with the SB 128, 512, and Live. Not sure if this applies to your situation though.
It happened to me whenever I upgraded a system that previously had an Ensoniq sound card in it. I am not sure how i fixed it!!
I think after uninstalling the Ensoniq drivers I may have deleted all references to ensoniq from the registry. then deleted the ensoniq "inf" file from the windows\inf\other directory and then deleted the drvdata.bin and drvidx.bin from the windows\inf\ directory.
If it is a fresh install and you are using ME it may have identified the card wrong as an Ensoniq.
