Gigabit over Ethernet
My exchange instructor told me that they are able to transfer 1000Mb/s over ethernet cable or UTP. Is this true? I thought 100Mb/s was the fastest they could get from twisted pair cable.

I believe it requires like something more that Category 5 Cable, like Cat6. I believe. Maybe even STP.

You might want to read my reply in the other forum you posted to (NT4 i think) but CAT5 Enhanced supports Gigabit/net/speed ie 1000mbps over copper runs at 350Mhz. It's new stuff and slightly more expensive than ordinary CAT5. CAT6 and CAT7 definitely support gigabit im yet to see then tho.

Again, posting the exact same topic to multiple forums gets confusing.
