Post CDRW isn't recognised as CDRW

The CDRW drive in a clients machine (Mitsubishi Diamond DAta 32x16x10) works fine as a CDROM drive, but none of the CD Writing software detects it as a valid CDRW drive, even the software that came bundled with the drive, Nero 5. I am lost as to what could be the problem? The machine was infected with multiple copies of the Pe Fun love virus, but from what I have read about this virus, it isn't destructive and shouldn't effect the CDR software? I have also downloaded from Nero a copy of the ASPI drivers and folloed their instructions on installing them, but this hasn't worked. Additionally, I checked for the presence of the Windows ASPI drivers, APIX.vxd, Winaspi.dll, Wnaspi32.dll and aspi2hlp.sys and all files are present. The machine is running Windows 98 SE. Any help appreciated, thanks.

Did it work before??.........1st things 1st, I would put in a blank HD and load 98 from scratch and install your CD-RW software. If it still don't work, it is obviously a hardware issue!

If it does work, back to the drawing boards, I would start with disbaling all programs loading on startup, updating IDE drivers, checking for firmware updates, etc.....

Looks to be a software issue. I downloaded a demo version of Nero 5.5 and it detected the drive fine and let me burn no worries. Back to version 5.0 and it failed. I tried updating version 5.0 with the latest patch and this still didnt help. Why do CDR manufacturers have to bundle outdated software with their new drives I don't know I am currently downloading an update for Easy CD Creator 4 in the hopes that will work, if not, edited by Sowulo--we don't allow discussion of illegal activities on these boards. This is the 2nd time Mitsubishi have done this to us, a while back they supplied Easy CD Creator 3.5a with CDRW drives that the software failed to recognise. You would think they could at least include the patch with the bundle.

Never had this issue with any of the burners I have purchased for customers: LiteOn, TDK, Sony, Plextor, Smart and Friendly (stop laughing at me), and HP's. Maybe you should look into other burners, Plextor has always been my personal favorite.

I would just like to add that I didn't purchase the Smart and Friendly it was the owner's son because of price even though I constantly recommended the Plextor
