Try updating the MB bios. Also check the bios and disable plug and play os. Also might try with minimal devices then add them one at a time after os is installed.

The other thing to possibly try is running off a plug, in controller for the hard drive, and see if that works.

hmmmm.....no soundcard modem or nic card and still getting an error detecting plug and play, i had the same problem with 2k but that was because of the onboard audio but i don't think that mainboard has onboard, at least as far as i can see on giga-byte's website. do you know that this is a good mainboard? processor? yes, i am a diehard amd fan, never owned an intel but i have heard of people running into problems with amd processors even though i think it is just made-up. do you have the exact error written down? that would be much helpful, have you tried that error message in the microsft knowledge base( http://search.support.microsoft.com/kb/c.asp?DU=C&FR=0 )?

Something else to try is to disable BIOS virus protection during install of the OS. For some reason, that tends to muck up during the detection of PnP cards.

Try the /P switches in this MS KB article. (I think the I option may work).

If your using an AGP card that could be a problem, if you are then you might need an AGP VXD patch from the manufactuer.
