DSL ?
Here goes, have a client who has DSL and he leaves it connected all day so others can access the internet through i-share. If he or another worker fires up internet explorer or netscape they won't connect, this only happens after the DSL connection has been on for more than a couple hours, also the only way to fix it is to reboot. Any ideas...

Sounds like a timeout somewhere, so is this when the connection is inactive for a couple hours? may be something with the dsl router or provider.

pretty sure it is a timeout error, it is happening on two machines, network is working fine, just started happening last week and DSL has been fine since I set it up 3 months ago

I would be willing to bet it is the proxy software,I used that software for a short time and while I got it working fairly easily I had sporadic problems with it and it was a pain because you had to install it on the server and on the clients. It also used protocols other than tcp/ip which I didn't like so I went to winproxy and I am happy.

I had a similar problem with BellSouth DSL (Alcatel USB modem) I could connect and it would work for only about 5 minutes if I did any heavy downloading, then data flow would stop but it still looked connected. If I disconnect and try to log back on I got a networking error. Reboot solved the problem but only for about 5 minutes. I found someone with the same mobo, modem and problem. His advice: In BIOS set Enhance Chip Performance to Enabled, and change K7 CLK_CTL Select to Default. Also disable USB error detection. Worked for me, no problems since. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the help, I think I found it,
virus qazwsx.hsq virus, found it sunday in the run folder in the registry, deleted the key and the client emailed me this morning and told me he didn't have to reboot to surf or check his e-mail, he is going to leave it on over night and check it again tomorrow morning...stay tuned again thanks for the help
