Advanced Server Woes
Clean install of Advanced Server 2000 and SP1. Installed Veritas 8.6. Did first complete backup of system using tape and system hung when trying to backup a file under the winnt\servicepackfiles\i386\ folder. After restarting the server I tried to rename the file "msoeacct.dll and the system hung just by right clicking the file. I restarted in safe mode and tried to delete the file but it would not delete. After typing the del command from the command prompt the cursor advanced to the next line and just hung there. If I deselect the file from the backup routine and don't try to access it all other system funtions are normal. I have tried to reinstall the sp2 but it won't reinstall and I think it is because of this file. I have never been unable to delete a file before. If I try to delete it under explorer it says its in use buy task manager shows its not. I just need to find a way to get rid of this file and this dogs out of tricks.
I wish I knew what I was doing.

This may not be the easiest solution, but it should work. Take the hd out and put it in as slave in another 2000 box. Delete the file from the other load, and then attempt sp2 again from the original machine.
Prolly the wrong way to go about it, but it should work

That is what recovery concole is for. You go into it from the repair option on the CD, an when you select RC, it dumps you into a command prompt feel. You should be able to delete the file that way.
Do you know for a fact that you don't need that file? I slept through *.dll 101, so i can't help you.
