    Unhappy Dead PC

    Hi, I have a dead pc, the hdd is fine,as is the memory,psu is ok, as is the on/off switch.......starts to read hdd as it is started up but then stops, could it either be the mobo or cpu.......any suggestions are welcome.thanks

    try disconnecting the hard drive and cd. remove all cards. boot to floppy.

    Just repaired one the other like this and it was the CPU.
    First I tried the Video but it was a no go so then replaced the CPU and bingo it was up and running. the CPU fan was the Dead give away it wasn't working.

    Although in your case if the cpu is notthe answer could be a faulty board. Are you getting any beeps on the post.?
    what Bios do you have?

    Cheers for the info guys, as for the cpu....well it could be that, but i suspect the mobo is at fault......the cpu fan works......guess i will have to sue the person that "kicked" the pc. thanks in advance.

    I had a computer just yesterday that was doing this exact thing. I was totally confused as I had personally configured and tested this thing in Toronto before shipping it to our Ottawa office. When I hooked it up in Ottawa, it was very flaky during startup and couldn't get it to boot stably. Turned out that the IDE connector came partially disconnected from the motherboard during shipping. Anyway it works perfectly as the new P3/866 is a scant faster than the P200 it replaced.

    detached and replaced all components but still the same, guess the shops are waiting to get their grubby hands on my cash then..........cheers for the help guys/girls........much obliged
