Computer locking up

Have a customer whose computer keeps locking up. He took it to a comp shop with no solution. I built him a new one he is still having the same problem. here is a run down
amd 1.3gz ath. currently ave temp running at 140 f
abit kt7 mobo
256 pny ram
soundblaster live sound card
creative labs 32mb annilator video
sony dvd
cd-rw
I think that is all the pertinant stuff. I am also having problems with his cdrw working when trying to copy a disk but i can get it to copy data files from hard drive. it wont make a copy to hard drive then write though. This is really a bothersom problem and I really need to get it fixed any help would be great. oh yea he is running a cable modem through a usb port and he locks on the internet mostly although also on dvds

Another Pertinant thing would be the O/S.
Because that is most likely your problem.

What type of software came with the cd-rw. We use nero a lot and it works pretty good. Its never froze on us, but we're running 2000 and that will make a difference. Will he let you upgrade the operating system?

Im concerned that if I give him 2000 I will have problems with the games that his son plays don't know if they will work any ideas?

ME and 2000 are far better than Win9x. In Quake 3, the Win9x group will lock up frequently causing the video to freeze and the sound will just repeat like a broken record.
