    Smile I need idea's

    I have a spare machine at the moment - p600 128mb RAM, 10 gig HDD, Win2k. Its an HP-EVectra, on my LAN, but doing bugger all at the moment - I am kinda looking for inspiration; want the box to do something, but cant really think of anything. I already have a gateway machine, mp3 server (and others), FTP and web servers.

    I am open to suggestions (withing reason )

    Well...put it on the SETI-at-Home project, or have it work calculations on one of those "discover this number for $10,000" schemes, or turn it into a game host, or a server for TradeWars2002...

    Load linux on it, and run SNORT (intrusion detection) With mandrake8 it's easy use linux4win and dual boot. (it's what I'm doing with mine)

    Home server. Put a few hardd drives in there, leave it on. Put Mp3s, movies , whatever you want on there.

    What I like to do with my spare system is play with different OSes and making them communicate on the lan, security and the like. I'm a pretty boring guy. Don't play games when I get off work, I learn more about apps and OSes.

    Hmmm, A spare machine and you have all you need...

    I would try alternative O/S's such as Linux, BeOS, Raphsody etc... Have a look at <a href="http://www.operatingsystems.net/" target="_blank">this Opearting System web site</a>

    Other than that some sort of dedicated number crunching service such as SETI.

    First option would be to ignore these other rich fools and give it to a pauper like me.

    Second option would be to make it an MP3 server. I did this for a while with my PII350 before I turned it into a Win 2k DC.
