    Post Broken monitor pin

I have a client that has had a broken pin on his monitor connector..

I have contacted the manufacturer and they don't issue or sell replacements...

Is it possible to slice a new connector?
and if so where can I find one...
Online, or stores like Microcenter or Compusa...

Any help in this matter would apprecated...

Any half decent electronics parts supplier should carry Mini DB15 connectors, since I'm in Australia I don't know all the names, but I suspect even Radio Shack should still have them.

If you have someone who can do some soldering that will be a bit fiddly, and a multimeter to measure the circuit to find which pin each wire connects to, (some should be shielded), you should be able to sort it out.

    Good luck.

    Wink

Tech tip: for those that switch their monitors around more than twice a month, try attaching a VGA extension cable to the end of the monitor signal cable (3ft recommended, 6ft will do, 12ft gets blurry at higher resolutions.) If a pin is going to get bent, it will be on the extension, and it a lot easier to replace than the original cable ends. Just throw it away and get another extension cable...

    Yes, good idea.

It also works for things like TV antenna connections that get changed often, like on portables. Use a short extension that you keep connected to the TV, save breaking the socket on the set, which nowadays is part of the tuner pack.
