Sympatico high speed Users.

Just wondering what fixes or speed ups everyone is using.
and also what everone has the advanced settings of application settings set to.
I have mine set at private api and protocol driver.
This site only is driving me nuts it's like I have a 28.8 Dial up modem.

The first thing I would recommend is to dump Access Manager if you are using Win98, ME, or 2K. Use a freeware driver called RASPPPoE instead. You can download it here: <a href="http://user.cs.tu-berlin.de/~normanb/" target="_blank">http://user.cs.tu-berlin.de/~normanb/</a>

The next thing I would do is go to <a href="http://forums.speedguide.net:8117" target="_blank">http://forums.speedguide.net:8117</a> which is the TCP/IP analyzer. It will check out your current TCP/IP config and let you know if you have any problems.

Then go download Dr.TCP from <a href="http://www.dslreports.com/front/drtcp.html" target="_blank">http://www.dslreports.com/front/drtcp.html</a> - this will let you set the MaxMTU and RWIN settings with ease. The MaxMTU should be set to 1454 for Sympatico HSE as they use a weird network setup. Other broadband users should use 1492 instead. As for the RWIN, use the value suggested by the TCP/IP analyzer (link given above)

Finally, you should visit <a href="http://fastweb.sympatico.ca/test/" target="_blank">http://fastweb.sympatico.ca/test/</a> to test your speed. This site is located on Sympatico's backbone, so it's not subject to external network influence like the other popular testing sites are.

I downloaded the DR.TCP and maximized my MTU and then went back to the link above to test again and it says I still have an MTU reading 1454. Do I need to reboot for this to change.

and also for the Rasppoe software do I need to rid my Access manager completely or can I have the option for using both. Because when I download it it says I have not Dialup adapter meaning network card.

Yes you need to reboot for any changes to your TCP/IP config to take effect.

If you're using RASPPPoE, you can dump Access Manager. They both do exactly the same thing, which is connect and authenticate you with the Sympatico network. Just that RASPPPoE uses the streamlined dial-up networking interface.

I wouldn't delete anything in the Network control panel unless you're absolutely sure you don't need it. I have a lot of "extra stuff" on my home PC but if I remove any of it my connection stops working.

I rebooted for DR.TCP and still no changes,

and no I;m not using Raspppoe I can get it to install It keeps saying I have no Diual up devices when I open the Exe. from Winzip.

You have to be using Win98 or better in order to use RASPPPoE. Win95 users are out of luck.

This link has a screen shot of what happens when trying to install the rasspppoe.exe from winzip. I have followed the messages recieve and cannot get this program to install on Win2k.
