    Post Can't map drive

I need to map a drive from an XP Pro machine to our AS/400. On 95, 98, nt, and 2000, I just right-click on "My Computer" and select "Map Network Drive." When the box comes up, I select a drive letter and type "\\*******." The "*" are the connection name to the AS/400. The XP computer works the same way until I enter the connection name. It gives the error "The network path \\******* could not be found."

I need this network drive to do some of my work. Thanks

I know this is obvious, but do you have all the right protocol installed from the XP machine to see the AS400 machine?

I am not an AS400 expert so I am not sure if it runs on TCP/IP, NetBuei or whatever.

This sounds like a question for SheriffQ.

The only protocol I thought it needed was tcp/ip, but I could be wrong.

I was hoping the sheriff should show up....

You'll want to add Netbuis (used for file sharing) that would probably fix your issue. Most 2k networks don't use it because 2k/xp suport netbuis over tcp/ip

NetBuis isn't listed under clients, services, or protocols in network properties. Where do I go to install it?

I got the name mixed up a tad... it's Netbios, and it's under the NWlink protocols..

I know if you are running 95 or 98 you need to install IPX/SPX/NetBIOS on BOTH machines(The XP and the other). Not sure about NT but I believe it's the same. Windows usually just installs the tcp/ip.

I'm not sure, but I don't think IPX/SPX/NetBIOS can be installed on an AS/400. I have no problems with Windows 95,98, NT, or 2000 mapping this drive, only XP.
