    Post Entering Compaq bios

Does anyone know how to enter the bios on a Compaq Presario 8760? I thought it was the F10 key but that doesnt seem to work?

UH OH I thought it was f10 also. If you get a red compaq screen on boot hit escape as soon as you see it so you can see the post so it will tell you the option. X

On all the ones I have here, There is a curosor that flashes on upper left hand corner of screen. When it goes to left hand side hit f10 to geto bios.

8760 sounds like a fairly new model, so I don't know if this applies, but on some older model Compaqs you had to have a boot disk to get into the BIOS. Compaq called it a "setup disk" or some BS like that.

On every Compaq I've seen made in the past 3 years, though, it's F10. Boot it up from cold, and just start jamming the F10 key repeatedly.

Thanks for the reply, but I found the problem. The hard drive did not have the compaq setup partition. I downloaded a bootable floppy image from compaq and was able to get in.

I've run into that before. When I can't get into the bios. I check the partitions to make sure there are 2 in there. If there isn't an extra partition, that means the machine was setup by someone who didn't used the restore cd, or they inadvertantly wiped out that extra partition because they didn't know what it was.

Speaking of this partition I got hamered last year on a site using all new compaqs then they installed Norton Works or utilis anyway it had a partition manager and it told them there partion ws screwed "asked if they wanted norton to fisk it" they said yup I said oh Sh$t had to restore about 10 machines. because of that little fiasco. So FYI dont put full norton suite on Compaqs.X
