No boot from cd-rom is cmos-need help upgrading
First off here is all the info my comp gives me about my BIOS...
Award modular BIOS v4.51pg
P5I430VX-250 Explorer BIOS v1.1
and at the whole long serial number thingy at the bottom is.... 07/10/96-i430VX-NS306-2a59GQ1AC-00 and once inside the CMOS setup it says... ROM PCI/ISA BIOS (2A59GQ1A)
I hope some of that was helpful. Now onto my problem. I want to install Linux onto my system but I have no boot from cd-rom support in my BIOS and I lost the Linux boot disk. So my question is where can I download a newer version of my CMOS BIOS setup thing that has a boot from cd-rom option in it? I've been to the page, or what I think was the page for my BIOS and it was no help. So is there is anyone who can help me I would greatly appreciate it. You can either e-mail me or post a reply, either way I will receive it. Thank you.

Your motherboard was made by QDI.
They have BIOS updates on their website.
I'm not familar with Linux, but with Windows NT, you can make the startup disks from the CD. Maybe you can do the same with Linux.

Depending on which distribution of Linux you have, you should be able to create a boot disk which will start the installation. If you have Red Hat Linux 6.0, the directions are on page 237 of the manual. If you don't have the manual, here are the general directions for creating a boot disk from the Red Hat Linux 6.0 CD:
Put the Linux CD in the drive and a blank disk in your floppy drive. From a DOS prompt, go to the dosutils directory on the CD and run rawrite.exe. Rawrite prompts you for an image file name. Type "..\images\boot.img" then press enter. Just follow the directions after that.
Good luck.
