    Post pcimcia modem vs; ethernet

    Hi all,

I have a Mitac laptop 400mmx running Win2k, it had an ethernet card installed and working perfectly. He has to go to the country for a field trip, and needs internet access. He obviously can't use the ethernet card so I put in the modem card, loaded the drivers and set up the account. It dials up fine, makes the connection @ 49,000 bps. It won't however load any pages, I get little to no activity at all. What is it conflicting with? He only needs it for 4 days then back to the ethernet card.
    help please....

Check the browser settings for any proxy config. Our company laptops are setup with two profiles in Netscape 4.x: One for the road with no proxy, the other for connected to LAN to connect to our HTTP proxy....

For modem connections there should be no proxy setup at all.

well Mac, thanks for responding. I checked all of those before and the dial up connection isn't using any proxy.

It seems really weird that I can connect fine but I dont get much activity on the connection aftwr that, It dosn't even get to load the home page.

    Any other thoughts?

Check to see if MSProxy is installed. Something easily overlooked as it's not in the usual place.
