T-Bird Processor Temps

Hey gang,

I've sold several T-Bird machines lately. I've noticed a a broad range of running temperatures. I'm talking anywhere between 110 F. to 150 F. Believe it or not, even though it seems quite hot to me, the machine running at 150 F. is very stable and seems to be thriving. I even run oversized heavy duty fans on the processor and in the case.

What kinds of temps are the rest of you techs seeing out there??

750 t-bird's at approx 114f and the 850 at approx 134f. These temp's are with the coolmaster fan + an additional case fan.

I'm running a 1.1Ghz T-Bird, the temp seems to max out aroung 61 C.

T-bird 700 around 114 F. at 900 it is about 140 w/ out a problem.

I read on Tomshardware that the 1.4Ghz Athlon is going to give out a whopping 76 Watts of heat. See this link for a table.

Compare this to your 750 which is still pretty hot and it only gives out 46 watts... It's going to want one serious mf fan and heat sink.

It also shows the alleged die temp.. @ 90 degrees for most chips.

hmmmm... watts huh...

lets break this down...

1 watt (power)= 1 joule(work)/1 sec(time)

1 joule (work)= 1 newton (force)/1 meter (distance)

1 newton (force)= 1kilogram(mass)*[1 meter/sec^2](acceleration)


i guess if that heat energy was transferred to mechanical energy, you could make something accelerate pretty quickly...

probably around 1.5 mhz!!!

Me and a fellow tech both have 900MHz T-Birds with ThermalTake's Super Orb (Dual-Fan). We both operate between 120-130 degrees. We also have an extra case fan. Another tech in our store has a 1GHz T-Bird with a Super Orb and it runs at the same temp range. Of course, he tried the Super Orb without any heat-sink compound and got the temp up to 183 degrees before the machine locked up. We have already chastised him about the screw up. Luckily the processor was not affected by the temp.

Wow!! 183 degrees F.!!! I also run the ThermalTake Orb fans with an additional case fan. I have yet to see a heat related problem, but some of the temps I've seen make me a little nervous.

Do you use the compound that comes on the heat sink or do you remove it and put on your own???
