Any experience with.....
I'm planning on getting a couple of 80gb ata/133 7200rpm Maxtor's (MODEL # 6L080J4) and I just wanted to check if anyone had any problems or comments about the drive before I do.
thanks

The only problem I can see is "how are you going to backup that much data"

Flabooble!
I've never had a problem with my Maxtors but I hear that returns of bad drives to Maxtor is about as easy as discovering the theory of cold fusion.

I'm not directly familiar with any recent Maxtor products, as I've steered way clear of Maxtor after bad experiences with their drives like 5 years ago, but I know a couple people who swear by them.....as well as a couple that are like me =)

Hafta disagree with ya,ilovetheusers Maxtor's RMA is the best, especially the advanced return that lets them ship you a new drive immediately (with your cc#), they ship a replacement out, you get it then return the bad one. Twice I've been able to move peoples data directly to the new drive with minimal loss. saves time and data...

Personally I don't like or use Maxtor for both bad experiences in the past and problems with RMA's. However these days it boils down to, who do you have luck with. I like and use Western Digital, but many people hate them. I think some of that is where you get your drives. Beyond that I can't really help, as I said, I no longer use maxtor because of past experience with them.

If I remember correctly, my brother showed me somewhere yesterday that Western Digital is now owned by Maxtor......what HD do I buy now?
I hope I'm wrong....
