Opinions Please
I could be wrong thats why I am asking for opinions.
when you have a zip drive (ide) how would you cable it? I have always slaved it to the cdrom on the secondary controller and left the primary for the ATA 66/100 drives.
Our system building manager here cables the zip drives to the HD as a slave.
when I get the systems back for repair I always recable them my way and everything works but I was wondering if it is necessary?
Opinions please

It should make no difference either way, however you may find that the device is faster if it is on a seperate controller than the HDD, if the ATA rates are different or if the zip drive is primarily used to xfer btween the hdd and zip, as both controllers will be able to work with the device at their max speed, vs. one controller having to work with both devices.

The ZIP100 Internal is not a DMA capable device so keep it on the secondary channel by itself or with another DMA incapable device (like an older CD-ROM drive). Otherwise the HD or whatever device is on that chain will drop down speeds for compatibility:
Here is how I have it setup on my computer:
Primary Master: DMA capable HD
Primary Slave: 8X4X32 CDRW (also DMA)
Secondary Master: 24X CDROM (Not DMA)
Secondary Slave: ZIP100 (Not DMA)
Works great, everything speedy and I have never burned a coaster with the CDRW. Maybe some mfgr has figured out a way to get around this but this is the way I understand it right now.

I ran into some problems with an IDE Zip on IDE0 with a DMA66 drive and cable. Once I removed the Zip drive and put it on IDE1, all the problems went away.

Okay very good those were my thoughts exactly I just like to get second opinions so I dont look like a total idiot when technology catches up. I am from the old school ya know when having a sound card meant you were SOMEBODY!
Since I do not work in the production area I miss out on a lot of the new stuff "hands on"
