Win98SE Boot Error

Here's an old one with a new wrinkle.
Unable to find win.com blah blah blah. Windows dumps to c:\
Change to C:\windows, type win.com and system continues to boot. Official MS fix is to replace current win.com with win.cnf file from the cab files and rename it to win.com. Been there tried that,problem perisits. Ms fix is based on file being corrupt or wrong file size sfc shows no problems and file is correct size. Sytem was stable up until 2 days ago with only the update to IE501 installed. No immediate problems after ie update.

I had this problem after loading the windows 98 resource kit. It changed the path statement in the autoexec.bat when I loaded it so I changed it back and it worked fine.

Yep I forgot about the res kit. Man I can't believe I forgot about it. Changed Autoexec.bat no more problems. You know you just get to where you almost forget about the config.sys and autoexec.bat when your knee deep in Windows all the time. Why should the Res Kit mess with them anyway. Thanks for the reply.
