Happy Worm + Norton = trouble
Heres the scoop. A client calls me and informs me that she has contracted the Happy 99 Worm. I tell her to update her Norton Antivirus files and make a set of Virus Rescue disk from her uninfected system. She does this. When she runs the updated Norton Antivirus it finds nothing wrong. Worse yet, when she restarts her system, which runs Win 98 by the way, the system ask her for a password that wasn't there before!!! We try every password she has ever used, NO luck. Finally I try a few hacks. Kill Cmos included, NO luck. Although I felt it was a long shot, I shorted the board jumper for her CMOS and TADA, the system comes up without the password and without problems. I then manually removed the worm. Anyone have a clue what caused this password to magically appear. Very Stange!!

Yup, she did it, and either forgot completely (not likely) or was too embarassed to admit it (most likely).
